There is some interchangeability between parts from the 1982 through 1984 BIG REDS. Note that there are some big differences between these models. The 1982 and 1983 200E models were chain driven with no reverse. The 1984 200ES models were shaft driven and have reverse. This article will only cover the main components that are interchangeable. Note this information is based on my research and my experience. Keep in mind that I am assuming that the parts are all OEM. I say this because I have owned many BIG REDS that have parts from other Honda ATC’s on them. Here we go:
Motor top end – The cylinder head, cylinder, piston, piston rings, wrist pin, and circlips are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Fenders and mud flaps – The front and rear fenders are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS. Note that the decals on the rear fenders changed in between the years.
Front end – The front end including the forks and the steering stem bearings are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Racks – The front and rear racks are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Headlight – Headlight assemblies are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Control Cables – The throttle, brake, and choke cables are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Seat – the seat assemblies are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Handlebars – The handlebars are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Thumb throttle assembly - The thumb throttle assemblies are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Controls (hand levers, rear brake pedal, shifter) - are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Air cleaner element - are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Starter - are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Starter solenoid
Voltage regulator
Ignition coil
Spark plug
Brake shoes (front and rear) are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Foot pegs - are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Wheels and tires - are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Rear grab bar - are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
Taillight assembly (including the bracket) - are the same between the 1982-84 BIG REDS.
I know that more interchangeable parts existing but I wanted to keep this article focused on more of the major components.
